Jamestown Settlement 1607-2007

America's 400th Anniversary

Why is Jamestown important?  Thirteen years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, the English landed at Jamestown.  Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement and the traditions established, including representative government, the rule of law, free enterprise and cultural diversity, form the basis of American culture today.

This living museum has a brand new exquisitely designed indoor museum, an orientation movie, as well as four outdoor recreated areas.  These include the Indian Village, James Fort, Riverfront Discover Area, and replicas of the three ships which first arrived at Jamestown nearly 400 years ago.  Jamestown Settlement encourages people, especially children, to interact and touch, and has excellent costumed interpreters to enhance your visit.
